My First Paying Gig!

This weekend I had a chance to make some cupcakes for a baby shower! I designed them to match the theme of the shower invitations and used the same idea as the first set of cupcakes I made; The Dragon-fly cupcakes. I used melted white chocolate to free-hand baby bottles, buttons, safety pins, stars, and letters spelling the word "Baby" and then accented them by piping frosting onto them. The cupcakes are standard white cupcakes with key lime cream cheese frosting.

The girl that I did them for LOVED them; seeing her face when she saw them for the first time was WELL worth it!

Check them out!

Malt Shoppe Cupcakes

A few weeks ago, I made some double chocolate malted milk ball cupcakes with cherry vanilla buttercream frosting. I topped them with marascino cherries and malted milk balls, and they were AWESOME!! They are really rich, so I would suggest making them as mini's next time.

Dragon-flies

This is it. This is what I needed. I had tried to make my first round of cupcakes in my cupcaking journey last week and failed miserably. I had tried making white chocolate cupcakes with key lime frosting and white chocolate dragonflies. I didnt even get to the fun part before I was discouraged by my first cupcake failure. My cupcakes fell completely flat. :(

It took me another week to get the courage up to give it another go, but BOY am I glad I did!!! The cupcakes were a SUCCESS!!!!

I must say, I am SUPER proud of myself and extremely motivated to continue on my cupcaking journey. My first trail with a cupcake frosting tool worked very well. I was initially most nervous about piping frosting onto cupcakes.

Halloween with the Fam

Its been a while getting these up here, but in the spirit of making "creations" a larger part of my life, I opted for some spooky treat-making for a day with the fam. K and I went to his parents house and his stepsister's, stepmom, and I had some fun in the kitchen!!

Witches Fingers

Caramel Toffee dip with cinnamon chips and apples

Emily with some spooky mummy and ghost pizzas

Bones and Blood

These treats were so fun to make and everyone got stuffed!! We spent the night having a SAW movie marathon.

Brownies are not cupcakes.

So I decided today that if I ever go into the cupcake decorating business, I would call it "Once Upon a Cupcake" -or- "Cuppycakes" -or- "Cupcakes two point OH!"

Lets not put the horse before the cart, though.

Last night I made Kaluha double fudge brownies. I know, I know, NOT cupcakes...not even cakes for that matter. But the one thing Im most nervous about is not frosting these little beauties, rather, I am worried about how the actual "cake" is going to turn out. Not having gone to culinary school of any sort, all of this "folding" and "forming soft peaks" nonsense makes me a bit jittery..rightfully so. I got ahold of a magazine the other day with some interesting tips for the "novice" baker to improve the quality of their cakey goods. I figured that I would try my hand at something fairly simple that would still be edible if I screwed it all up: Brownies. Now, Ive never met a brownie I didnt like, so Im thinking that regardless of how this turns out, I can still stuff my face with some brownies and milk when the task is complete.

This was the first time in my life that I have made a brownie that did not come from a box. This is also the first time in my life that I made FROSTING that didnt come from a can or squeezetube.

...and

THEY TURNED OUT FABULOUS!!!!! Everyone loved them; I took them to a family supper and my "guinea pigs" were super impressed. Yes!

Motivational Ego-boost to get going? : CHECK!

The creation of a schweet new hobby!

Today was the first snow-fall of the season, and I sit here typing, with thousands of sweet little thoughts buzzing around my head...

I am a 24 year young girl living day after day in corporate america. I went to school for business right after high school. I got a job at a fortune 500 finance company while still in college, and 4 years later, here I am: a budding success moving my way up the corporate ladder, with high hopes of one day obtaining my master's degree.

But lately I've been thinking...as I slowely creep closer and closer to my 30's, I am starting to feel a need for something more. The need for a new hobby keeps nagging at me. It all started with an impulse buy while grocery shopping. I purchased "Martha Stewart's Cupcakes", a book FILLED with hundreds of creative cupcake ideas and tips and tricks of the trade. It hit me like a ton of bricks! Why hadnt I thought of this before!? I would begin making cupcakes as a hobby.

I love to cook; I love to decorate; I am creative..and artistic. This is the perfect craft for me.

I have no idea where this road will take me but I plan to document my journey here.

I leave you with this; the beginning of my first project...
